This is a trip that almost didn't happen. In 2011 the Egyptian Revolution took place and tourism all but stopped in the country. Things settled down near the end of the year and maintained through early 2012. The scene got a bit dicey again in June but this was a must see destination and our South African friends were vested as well so we decided to go for it in fall. Prior to embarking on the organized tour portion of our trip, we met up in Cairo and then went for a jeep camping tour in the White Desert for a few nights. As much as we loved the history and awesome monuments throughout Egypt, our experience in the White Desert was a lifetime highlight.
